Coming from Sweden I found it amusing to see a 740 being called a classic. They used to be one of the most common cars around here and I don’t think a day goes by without seeing at least one 740/760.
I’m sure Honda gets their money back from Takata (or whoever is managing their current concerns), but Honda still has to pay the dealerships to do the work in the meantime. Not that Honda has a choice in the matter, but that’s probably a fair chunk of cash sitting in the accounts payable tray.
21. Coils are another item that you could scrounge up at a salvage yard, but we opted for a new set from Accel (PN ACC-140043K-8). The LS valve covers and coil racks were left over from a Week To Wicked project. We did have an interference issue with the LS1 fuel rail and the more modern LS3 valve covers and coil pack rails. Our solution was to notch the coil pack rack a bit and flip the one coil forward using two small spacers (or a stack of washers in a pinch) to help the coil clear the coil rack.

I’ve had to have the intake valves cleaned on 2012 GTI twice already. I installed an ECS catch can system and can only hope its doing its job of keeping oily air off the intake valves. The last valve clean I did myself and its a messy job…
