With so many different fuels and an almost unlimited number of different vehicles on the road, always check for a sticker on the fuel flap or the owner’s manual if unfamiliar with the fuel requirements. Remember, it’s a simple check that can save you from some of the biggest automotive headaches.
I’m sure Honda gets their money back from Takata (or whoever is managing their current concerns), but Honda still has to pay the dealerships to do the work in the meantime. Not that Honda has a choice in the matter, but that’s probably a fair chunk of cash sitting in the accounts payable tray.
11. After securing the cam with a Summit LS thrust plate (PN SUM-150106) we went ahead and installed the timing set, making sure to line up the dots on the sprocket and timing gear. The sprockets we had and the timing chain was a new replacement from Summit (PN SME-143012).
The Accord battery sensor recall is finally cooling off (we were doing 2 dozen a week a couple months ago).
I had a plier, a roll of duct tape, two zip ties (found in the trunk), and a paperclip. Pulling the EGR tube off (to use as a makeshift heat shield), a cable guide tube (pulled off a wire harness), and the spring from the pen, I was able to rebuild the throttle cable, shield it from the manifold heat, and reattach the end to the throttle body, using the pen spring and the paperclip.
We decided to try a 5.3L since it’s by far the most common engine out there. Rather than buy a complete engine we opted to build one from various sources. Why? Well, when you buy a pull-out engine you typically end up with a lot of leftover bits and a complete engine tends to cost more than if you buy the components separately. We were going to go this direction with the block, but Summit Racing had 5.3L blocks so cheap it wasn’t worth the effort to hunt one down in a salvage yard. The rest is a combination of new and used parts to end up with a done and ready-to-run engine. Now, if your wallet is a bit light, you can do things even cheaper than we did by going with used parts. But keep in mind that running used lifters or a “broken-in” oil pump does up the risk factor a bit.
Travel to the southwest portion of the Highway 97 region, following the large tarmac road until you reach the NERO checkpoint at the very end. Start by finding the fuel cannister which is by the security booth at the entrance of the checkpoint, then carry it around the chain-link fence until you reach a gap. The generator is just through here. Fuel it up and take the usual precautions of dismantling the speakers before you push that green button and turn on the power. As you complete the final NERO checkpoint you’ll finish the World’s End Storyline which also unlocks the ‘World’s End’ achievement. Congratulations!
As another person mentioned – the carbon is actually condensed oil vapors coming from the PCV system. Some folks have installed a vapor “catch can” modification coming off the oil separator / PCV tube to sequester the vapors before they deposit onto the intake valves and ports.
